MMO wire anode (WIRE): overview

The MMO wire anodes allow many configurable assemblies to suit the need; IPSI Solutions carries out the assembly on request and helps choose the solution. They are particularly suited to confined spaces or special shapes: internal and borehole cathodic protection, nozzles, tank bottoms, suspended anodes (water towers, reservoirs), transport pipelines…

Two references are available: the C005 (Ø1.6 mm, 0.009 kg/m, permissible current 0.05 A/m in soil and 0.5 A/m in fresh water/backfill, 20-year life) and the C006 (Ø3.2 mm, 0.036 kg/m, 0.1 A/m in soil and 1 A/m in fresh water/backfill, 20 years). The cable (length and type) is defined on request; protective sheath solutions are available to prevent anode/structure contact.

Where a wire anode makes the difference

A rigid anode needs room: a borehole, a trench, an anode bed. The MMO wire anode does not. Flexible and thin, it fits where no conventional anode can go: inside a tank, on a tank bottom, in a culvert, inside a pipe, or suspended in a water tower. Current is spread along its whole length instead of being concentrated at one point.

C005 or C006?

The two references differ in diameter, and therefore in the current they accept per metre. The C006, twice as thick, takes twice the current of the C005 in soil as in fresh water. The choice depends on the structure's current demand and the available length: for the same demand, the C005 needs a longer run.

Watch out for

Direct contact between the anode and the protected structure creates a short circuit that cancels the protection. Where the anode runs alongside the structure, a protective sleeve prevents this contact; our team specifies it together with the assembly.
