Monobloc insulating joints: overview

Monobloc insulating joints are high-strength fittings used to electrically isolate pipeline sections, in order to improve the efficiency of cathodic protection systems. They reduce earth-loop currents and interference between the various CP systems. Supplied with pups matching the thickness and grade of the pipe, they are designed long enough to eliminate any thermal damage to the insulating components during on-site welding.

They are factory-assembled then subjected to hydrostatic tests and electrical tests at various manufacturing stages. Monobloc, non-dismountable and maintenance-free. The production covers high-pressure monobloc joints (water, gas, oil and petrochemical industries), low-pressure joints, joints for low/high-temperature fluids, acid services or conductive fluids, and flanged-end versions.

Why a monobloc joint rather than a flange kit

An insulating kit is fitted between two accessible, removable flanges. The monobloc joint is welded directly into the pipeline: it adds no flanges, cannot loosen and needs no maintenance, which makes it suited to buried or hard-to-reach locations and to high-pressure pipelines.

What to check when ordering

The grade and wall thickness of the pipe, so that the pups can be welded without special precautions; the operating pressure and temperature; the nature of the fluid, especially for sour service or conductive fluids, which call for suitable versions.
